We took the Doolin Ferry to the closest and smallest Aran Island. We walked around the island, again in 90F plus temperatures. It was so hot I actually took a dip in the super cold water. With prompting for a friendly local I even put my head under. The beach on Inis Oírr is so nice and the water color is gorgeous. The kids sunbathed on rocks by the beach. I never expected to swim and sunbathe in Ireland!
On the way back we took the ferry to the Cliffs of Moher. We saw a sea cave from Harry Potter and the Halfblood Prince, but more importantly, The Cliffs of Insanity from Princess Bride! The trail we took down to the water yesterday is an old goat trail and it was neat to see it from the boat.
We went to Fitz’s Bar at the Hotel Doolin to try and see some traditional Irish music. A singer with his guitar played a couple of Edon’s favorites while the kids split a delicious vegan curry. It wasn’t exactly what we were looking for, but it was quite enjoyable. On the way home we stopped by an old church and tower. I was so tired it was hard to make the drive home. Another exhausting 12+ mile walking, but beautiful day!
How cool that you went to the Aran Islands. I play a song called Inisheer which is about that particular Aran Island. It is a beautiful tune. And the CLIFFS OF INSANITY!!!! How cool is that!!! Did the boys want to try and climb it like the man in black? So glad you having fun and so thankful you are sharing your trip here with us😊
ReplyDeleteWe have to hear the song when we get back!! They definitely enjoyed climbing all over the cliffs and swimming in shrieking eel infested water. Good thing they didn’t get eaten!
