This is a travel day. Our super-host friends had the most delicious oatmeal with lingonberry jam and black currant jam and leftover whipped cream ready for breakfast when we woke up. They took us to the Höör train station around 9am. We caught at 9:12am train to Hässleholm Central. We arrived a little early for our next train so we walked out of the station and very briefly walked to a neat-looking, old church.
Then, we took a train from Hässleholm to Stockholm Central Station. We had about one hour and 40 minutes before our next train, but didn’t go sightseeing. Instead we bought Red Bull and Pear sparkling water (a common soda and sparkling water flavor here) for John and carton-style smoothies for me and the boys. Food is actually quite reasonably priced here. The train got into the station early, so we got on board and just relaxed. No internet on this train. However, they had clever and tempting vegan ice cream ads all over the train. I mean who wants to miss “pretty average vanilla ice cream?” We will hopefully try some before we leave. The little bit of Stockholm we could see from the station looked really interesting. We will visit another time.
Our last switch was from Borlänge Central to Rättvik. From here our friends picked us up to drive us to Dalarna.
We all slept at least some point during the day. John and I took bonine and were particularly tired. Plus, we have all been up late and waking up early. Train food was a huge success. Wasa bread with a hearty smearing of vegan butter, with pieces of vegan cheese and cold cuts on top. This was suggested by our friends and is a common travel/picnic food. Everyone was very content food wise.
John decided that most of Sweden we saw today looked similar to Virginia, Tennessee, western North Carolina. Basically the foothills of the Smokeys. We did see several picturesque lakes.
Dalarna is home of midsummer maypoles. We have several enjoyable and long summer days ahead. My friend has lots of great pictures and background info on the holiday and old farmstead we will stay at on the site: theswedelife.blogspot.com. Photos are in reverse chronological order today. I have no idea...
