Day 1 Oslo Part 1

Landed in Oslo around 1:30pm. Customs and passports were easy. Got Norwegian kroner from the ATM and took the local train into Oslo City Center.

Got lost a little, but made it to the Cochs Pensjonat. Our phones don’t have cell service here. It is the oldest boarding house in Oslo. We have a 4 bed room with a sink. The showers and toilets are down the hall. They are shared with other guests, but are singles (not multi-stall). So, that works pretty well. Heidi, our friend in Sweden, did an excellent job finding this place for us!

We found the Kiwi and Rema 1000, which are relatively cheap grocery stores close by. Things are expensive in Norway, but not all things are more expensive than home (bottled water on sale) and most things aren’t too much more. They actually seem about the same.

Luckily we also packed vegan jerkey and protein bars.

After dinner we went to the Vigeland Sculpture Park. It was amazing. Lots of Norwegians, especially youngish ones, our picnicking and playing a game kind of like bocce or nine pins. Some were sunbathing at 8:00pm!

Next, we wandered semilost again to another sculpture garden. We found the ferry terminal and the Nobel Peace Centre. The sculpture garden on the water was much less impressive. It was fun to see the very popular restaurants on the waterfront. Loads of people at 9:30pm.

Walked back to the hotel. It is 11pm and the sun is just kind of setting. The picture below was taken from our balcony at 10:35pm.
