Day 8: Siena

This morning we met our friends at the regional Florence bus station. We caught a direct bus from Florence to Siena. The bus ride takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The Italian countryside was so beautiful, again.
In Siena we visited this beautiful square called Il Campo. We climbed the tower adjacent to the square. The views of Siena and the surrounding Tuscan countryside were just amazing. We visited the Civic Museum next. The paintings inside from the Medieval period are famous secular works. There were two interesting frescoes side by side that compared good and bad government. Tyranny was still bad, even back in the 1200s. Times haven’t really changed all that much.
We had lunch and our friends spent time shopping and enjoying the idyllic streets of Siena while we visited one of the oldest hospitals in Europe. It had these fabulous frescoes from the 1400-1500s depicting the day to day responsibilities of the hospital (orphanage, food bank, and more).
Cool, old stuff everywhere!

    1. It is kind of silly because we eat so much pizza at home, but still fun!
