Today we checked out of our amazing Air BnB. As we walked out of the door we realized that someone had come and spray painted graffiti the doors of the courtyard in the night.
We took the vaparetto to La Salute Church. It was built in thanks to St. Mary in the 1600s that the plague outbreak there finally ended. One third of the population of Venice died in that plague outbreak.
Next, we went to the T Fondaco dei Tedeschi. In 2016 this department store opened in an old palatial house. It has a free roof deck that overlooks the city. It was quite a view! And fortunately it wasn’t not too crowded because it was the low season.
We caught the train to Florence. We made our way to our Air BnB. It was about a 30 minute walk from the town center. It is very nice, but on a bit of a busy road and a little too far away from everything. Oh well.
Next, we went to the Mercato Centrale and met up with our friends from Florida. We had vegan pizza and burgers from the Mercato. Our friends had drinks and pizza.
We went to their super cute Air BnB adjacent to the Mercato and planned our trip for the next day to Siena. Then, we took a cold walk through Florence to the Piazzale Michelangelo. We saw the Duomo and Brunelleschi’s magnificent dome up close and then from the Piazzale Michelangelo overlook in Oltrarno. It was so beautiful.
We took a long, cold walk back to our Air BnB and had fabulous hot showers and went to bed.
I love that you could all meet up in Italy
