Day 20 - Black Forest, Germany
Today all of us, Edon included, set off toward the Black Forest. The Black Forest is famous not only for its forest, but also its cuckoo clocks. It took a while to pack up in the morning, so we didn’t end up leaving until after 11:00.
The drive to the Black Forest took us through Stuttgart. Edon thought the town looked like an interesting and enjoyable place to live.
The Black Forest Open Air Museum is an outdoor museum about the Black Forest. We arrived there just after 14:00. It is a collection of historical buildings from the Black Forest Region that have been moved to one location. The buildings are open for walking around and in and have tools, furniture, clothing, etc in them to learn about and view. One building, from the early 1600s, is in its original location. The others have been brought there. It is crazy to think of the amount of manual labor that went into constructing these buildings.
Everyone was hungry and ready to head to our hotel around 16:30. Our hotel, a small lodge, was about a 25 minute drive from the museum. The drive to the hotel passed through Triberg, the small tourist town we plan to visit tomorrow.
The hotel was in a tiny town a few miles from Triberg. We checked in and then Mark, Vanessa, Edon, and I headed back to Triberg to get dinner from the grocery store. The hotel has a pool table and foosball table that the kids used while everyone ate.
After dinner, Mark, Vanessa, and I went for a walk around the small town. There was a park with a fantastic playground and a metal sculpture art display that we hope to visit again in the daylight. There is a festival of some kind happening nearby with loud, live music. I hope it ends soon so I can go to sleep. It is just about midnight and doesn’t seem to be winding down. The road outside is also a bit noisy, so that isn’t super awesome as I am a very light sleeper.
